City Council Master Bike Plan Public Hearing May 18, 2009

The City Council will be holding a public hearing on the Master Bike Plan on May 18, 2009 during their 6 PM legislative session in the City Council Chambers at Spokane City Hall, W. 808 Spokane Falls Boulevard. Public testimony will be taken during the hearing.

Notice

On Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at 5 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 808 West Spokane Falls Blvd., the City of Spokane Plan Commission will hold a public hearing to receive public testimony on proposed Master Bike Plan which involves amending and updating the City of Spokane Comprehensive Plan to facilitate improvements to bicycling in the City of Spokane. The Planning and Development Services is proposing that the Master Bike Plan be adopted as an emergency amendment to the Comprehensive Plan as provided in Spokane Municipal Code Section 17G.020.010.E. This amendment has been reviewed under the threshold requirements of the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) and a Determination of Non-Significance was issued on January 14, 2009 consistent with the provisions of WAC 197-11. A copy of the environmental checklist and threshold determination are available in the Planning and Development Services Office, 3rd floor, City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd., Spokane, WA 99201, weekdays between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Contact Planning & Development at 509.625.6300 or Joel Soden, Planner at 509.625.6965 for further information.

The Plan Commission will take public testimony regarding the proposal at the hearing. City staff will be available at the City Council Chambers on the day of the hearing between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to answer questions regarding the proposed Master Bike Plan documents.

All meetings and hearings will be conducted in facilities that are accessible to all members of the public. Addition information with regard to the accessibility of City Hall, or notification of an ADA accommodation should be made to Liane Carlson, Human Resources Specialist at 509.625.6703.

Bike Plan Update

The City's Master Bike Plan is part of the transportation section of the City's Comprehensive Plan. The City's Planning Services and Engineering Services departments--along with the Bicycle Advisory Board--have been working on the bike plan update.

To date, their work has included creating an inventory of existing bike lanes, routes, signage, and other facilities. They have also reviewed bicycle planning ideas from other communities to get ideas for Spokane.
