Spokane Teaching Health Center, WSU Health Sciences Spokane - and Partnership with the VA

Tuesday, September 15, 2020

The Spokane Teaching Health Center (STHC) formed in November 2013 in response to a critical shortage of primary care medical residencies in eastern Washington, and also an opportunity to apply for more residents through the federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA funds are intended to support teaching health clinics with residencies and so the consortium created the Spokane Teaching Health Center and has successfully increased the number of medical residency positions in eastern Washington. Medical residents are physicians who just graduated from a medical school but must complete at least three years of training before they are eligible to practice.

In September 2020, WSU Health Sciences Spokane announced a partnership with the VA.
