New local businesses revitalize Spokane economy

Spokane business developments throughout downtown and the University District are set to drive the region’s long-term economic health and provide benefits for college students.

Mark Richard, president of Downtown Spokane Partnership, said that “very solid growth” is drawing more businesses to the city.  He noted that retail expansion downtown is a telltale sign of a robust market.

“Business is very strong and growing [in Spokane],” he said. “We are seeing more and more retailers looking at our area for expansion.  In less than a year, we had Anthropologie open.  We are about to see an Urban Outfitters open in a few months.  You’re talking about national retailers at a time when some are shrinking and many are holding the line on growth.”

University students are not only benefiting from these businesses, Richard said, but these businesses are thriving because of the university student. Read more.
