Whitworth fundraising effort surpasses $100M

Friday, October 13, 2017

Whitworth University is proud to announce The Campaign for Whitworth has surpassed its original $100 million goal, making it the largest fundraising effort in the university’s history.

The campaign began in 2010 and was endorsed by key campus stakeholders, including the board of trustees, in an effort to support Whitworth’s 2021 strategic plan. In the last several years, this comprehensive campaign has received gifts of all sizes, from $4 to $4 million, and from alumni and students from the Classes of 1936 to 2020.

“The campaign’s successes thus far have strengthened the university in immeasurable ways,” Whitworth President Beck A. Taylor says. “Through the substantial and sacrificial generosity of Whitworth supporters, our academic and co-curricular programs are even better equipped to deliver a first-rate experience for our students. We have four more years before the conclusion of  Whitworth 2021, and our campaign will continue to highlight ways that donors can help us achieve our ambitious goals, ones that help Whitworth prepare and send its graduates into a world that so desperately needs them.”

Since its inception, the campaign has funded institutional financial aid/scholarships and the following endowments and facilities:

  • Five new endowed professorships and chairs
  • Faculty scholarship and research endowments (science research, interdisciplinary research, and the Vocations of the Christian Professor program)
  • Endowment for the Dornsife Center for Community Engagement
  • 98 new endowed scholarships
  • The 63,000-square-foot Robinson Science Hall
  • The 21,000-square-foot expansion and renovation of the Cowles Music Center
  • Remodel of and addition to the Beeksma Family Theology Center (to be completed in 2018)
  • New Pine Bowl FieldTurf

“I believe our alumni and friends recognize that by giving a gift to Whitworth they are making an important impact on the lives of bright, motivated, faithful students who will change the world,” says Tad Wisenor, ’89, assistant vice president for institutional advancement. “As we continue to seek to fund the highest priorities of our Whitworth 2021 strategic plan, we hope all Whitworthians will join us in this inspired calling.”
