The Community Colleges of Spokane Foundation held its largest fundraiser, Sip, Savor & Swirl, recently and raised a record $154,000. This year marked the 10th anniversary of Sip, Swirl & Savor, and since its inception, the event has raised over $700,000 for the foundation and colleges.

The funds raised at Sip, Swirl & Savor provide essential scholarships and support for Spokane Community College and Spokane Falls Community College students. The foundation has awarded $2.2 million in scholarships to 10,000 students over the last five years.

The annual dinner and auction showcased the talents and training of students enrolled in the Inland Northwest Culinary Academy at SCC who served a five-course, gourmet dinner paired with award-winning wines from vintners selected from Washington’s Prosser region.

“Part of what makes Sip, Swirl & Savor so special and unique is the participation of the Inland Northwest Culinary Academy students and instructors,” said Krista Caro, CCS Foundation events coordinator. “Not only does INCA prepare and serve a truly decadent meal, they use it as a teaching and learning tool for the students. Very few events offer the quality of food our guests enjoy, and that is due entirely to INCA.”

Student scholarship recipient Joanna Myers also underscored the need for foundation scholarships by sharing her story of overcoming cancer and an abusive relationship to reach her dream of becoming a nurse. “Without the generous support of the Foundation, I wouldn’t have been able to return to college,” said Myers.
