WSU regents approve medical degree

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Washington State University Board of Regents today approved the establishment of a doctor of medicine degree for the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine.

Meeting in a regularly scheduled session at the WSU College of Nursing on the campus of WSU Health Science Spokane, the WSU Regents approved a doctor of medicine degree requiring completion of six courses in medical science, four clerkships, one sub-internship rotation, eight regular rotations, and 12 one-credit courses in medical leadership. The leadership courses allow the student to earn a separate certificate in leadership in medicine and healthcare. Besides coursework, the student must also pass 3 national licensing exams; complete a scholarly project; and satisfy professionalism standards set forth by the college.
