To preserve America’s long heritage as a nation of curiosity and innovation, Spokane’s citizens and scientists will join with others across the globe to March for Science on April 22, 2017. The Spokane event will begin in the Clock Tower Meadow of Riverfront Park at 1 pm, with the March at 2 pm.

Why are scientists shedding lab coats and putting down clipboards to take to the streets? Because our work benefits everyone! Public health, life-saving medical treatments, clean air and water, preservation of bald eagles (and so many other plants and animals), the capacity to produce food for 7 billion people, transportation, technological advances—not only luxury items but daily necessities —all are the products of scientific innovation.

Scientists face increasing public distrust, and that lack of trust is now shaping government policy. Dramatic cuts have been proposed to most major federal agencies that do and fund science.

We must support science through public funding and encourage our children to study STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). Industry leaders tell us they need workers skilled in STEM to keep our country a global leader in innovation. We hope to increase appreciation of science as a tool, and build trust in the process of scientific discovery.

Join us and come get to know your local professors, doctors, teachers, students, parents, farmers, brewers, outdoor enthusiasts and citizens as we lend our voices to support the work of our local scientists and encourage scientific curiosity!
