Gonzaga Presents Annual Spring Dance Concert April 27-29 at Magnuson Theatre

Thursday, April 27, 2017

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University Theatre & Dance presents its 16th annual Spring Dance Concert, featuring a variety of styles performed by Gonzaga dance students at 7:30 p.m. on April 27, 28 and 29, and a 2 p.m. Saturday matinee April 29. All performances will be in the Magnuson Theatre, located in College Hall.

The concert features ballet, jazz, modern and urban dance works choreographed by four dance faculty members. Additionally, the show will feature two student-choreographed pieces selected by adjudicators from the annual Student Choreography Concert and pieces showcased at the American College Dance Association conference in April. Costumes are designed by Leslie Stamoolis, and lighting design is by faculty Courtney Smith and lighting design students.

This year, the concert will also include the reconstructed solo dance with silks, “Lily,” originally performed by pioneering American interdisciplinary artist Loie Fuller (1862-1928).

In October, visiting scholar Jessica Coxe held auditions within a workshop where she taught the piece, and selected two student performers who have continued rehearsing and developing the work throughout the school year. The concert has never before featured a solo performer or historical reconstruction. Guest artist Megan Slayter will work with technicians and designers to capture the lighting as it was done over a century ago.

Tickets are $10 each and available for purchase online or by calling the Gonzaga Theatre Box Office at (509) 313-6553 to reserve a ticket.
