DSP raises funds for House of Charity shelter - text to donate now!

Following the announcement last week that the House of Charity (HOC) – a program of Catholic Charities Spokane – would be ceasing 24 hour operation and expanded shelter services starting in May, President Mark Richard of the Downtown Spokane Partnership (DSP) called for the business community to find the funds to help keep the doors open.

In 2016, following an initial contribution of $25k, the DSP issued a challenge to match up-to an additional $25k in private donations to the HOC. $15k of that challenge remained unclaimed until Friday, April 14, when Vickerman & Driscoll Financial Advisors stepped-up to pledge $10k.  Kevin Driscoll commented to DSP staff that the firm had been considering supporting the HOC for a while and was motivated to take advantage of the matching dollars. “The House of Charities provides vital services to some of the most disadvantaged members of our community.  We are happy to support them and would hope others join us to enable the 24/7 services to continue,” says Driscoll. 

To maintain expanded services, however, a lot more is needed, $5k of the original challenge still remains. For individuals who would like to contribute at a smaller level, the DSP is also matching donations contributed via a “text to donate” campaign. Simply text “Change” to 50555 and a $5 donation will appear on the user’s next phone bill.
