Spokane's Dr. Katherine Tuttle one of two honored by National Kidney Foundation

"I am thrilled to receive the 2017 Donald W. Seldin Award," Himmelfarb said. "Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Seldin exemplified bringing the best and most rigorous science to the patient bedside. Patients’ needs always came first."

Himmelfarb directs the Kidney Research Institute and is the author of more than 200 peer-reviewed publications. He has served on expert panels for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Veterans Health Administration, and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. He is also a nephrologist who cares for patients with kidney disease, and an internationally recognized educator.

Tuttle is co-principal investigator at the UW Institute of Translational Health Sciences and an investigator at the Kidney Research Institute. She directs research at Providence Health Care in Spokane. She also is a member of the Board of Directors for the Kidney Health Initiative for the American Society of Nephrology and the United States Food and Drug Administration. 

The awards will be made next week at the foundation's spring meeting in Orlando, Florida.
