DSP Spring Clean Week 2025 April 28-May 1
Thursday, May 1, 2025
Spokane, WASH. (April 24, 2025)- Just in time for Bloomsday and Lilac Festival celebrations, downtown Spokane is getting a fresh look, and the community is rolling up its sleeves to make it happen. Spring Clean Week 2025 kicks off Monday, April 28 through Friday, May 2, with over 100 volunteers already signed up and room for more to join the effort.
Now in its tenth year, Spring Clean Week invites volunteers to spend their lunch hours giving back to the city center alongside the Downtown Spokane Clean Team, the DSP’s dedicated crew who work 365 days a year to keep downtown clean, green, and welcoming. From litter pickup to prepping flower planters, volunteers will help get downtown photo-ready for the thousands of springtime visitors who come for Spokane’s signature May events.
“The Downtown Clean Team are the heart and hustle behind our streets,” said Emilie Cameron, President & CEO of the Downtown Spokane Partnership. “Spring Clean Week is a chance to amplify their efforts and bring the community together to care for our shared public spaces.”
Week Highlights Include:
- Daily beautification projects including litter pickup, sidewalk sweeping, planter prep, and graffiti removal. Efforts will focus on areas not part of the Clean Team’s standard routes such as alleyways, parking lots, gutters, and tree wells.
- Special power washing courtesy of The Bright Side Seasonal Lighting & Power Washing, giving sidewalks and gathering areas an extra spring shine.
- Creation of “Lilac Lane”, a series of floral garlands installed on Main Avenue by volunteers from Aldrich Financial Advisors, in collaboration with longtime Spokane Lilac Festival Association float designer Mike Moore, a tribute to Spokane’s flower-inspired nickname.
- A Corporate Team Challenge, where the group collecting the most bags of debris earns coffee and doughnuts for their entire team.
Thanks to support from the City of Spokane Waste Department, which is supplying cleaning gear, and to Downtown Spokane Grocery Outlet, providing snacks and drinks to keep volunteers energized throughout the week.
And the beautification continues: after Mother’s Day, students from The Community School will join the Clean Team to plant more than 200 sidewalk planters throughout the downtown business improvement district that the Clean Team will continue to maintain through summer and into fall.
