If you’re interested in nutrition, you have likely heard the term, ‘gut microbiome,’ but what is it, and why should we pay attention to it? Is it true that ‘you are what you eat’?

Please join us for a fascinating and informative lecture from Chris Damman, MD, MA, clinical associate professor of Gastroenterology at the University of Washington. Dr. Damman will share how our bodies are transformed by bioactive compounds in the foods we eat including fiber, phytonutrients, fats, and ferments, and how this twenty-first century approach to the foods we eat inspires next-generation nutritional approaches to non-communicable diseases.

Dr. Chris Damman is a practicing gastroenterologist at the UW in the Department of Medicine/Division of Gastroenterology and Chief Medical & Science officer at UR Labs. He is former Initiative Lead of Gut Health in the Enteric and Diarrheal Diseases team at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He holds an M.D. from Columbia University, an M.A. in Molecular Biology & Biochemistry from Wesleyan University, and is board certified in Gastroenterology. Dr. Damman maintains an academic appointment with the University of Washington in the division of Gastroenterology with research interests focused on food and microbiome therapeutics for non-communicable disease.

This lecture is presented by the UW School of Medicine-Gonzaga University Health Partnership.
