Historian and former Chairman of the Spokane Tribe of Indians.

This presentation will walk the audience in the footsteps of the Spokane tribe from pre-contact to present day. The Spokane tribe, a semi-nomadic river people who first lived upon the land which the city of Spokane sits, flourishing from the three million acres which they call home.

November 9 at 6:30 pm at Shadle Park Library

Join us as the Spokane's greeted with open arms the first fur traders to Washington, the first priests and missionaries to arrive, meet the the soldiers who threatened the peaceful Spokane's, walk with the tribal people as they were forced onto reservations. We will take a look at the impacts boarding schools had on the tribe.  We will then look at the era's of: allotment, relocation, termination as well as advancements through legislative changes, self governance and gaming. Finally, we will discuss how tribal society looks today.
