‘Campus Pioneers: The First 25 Years of Women at Gonzaga’ Exhibition Open at Foley Center

SPOKANE, Wash. – “Campus Pioneers: The First 25 Years of Women at Gonzaga, 1948-1973,” a new free and public exhibition guest curated by Ellen Schuster (’19), is open for viewing in the Cowles Reading Room on the third floor of the Foley Center Library through May.
The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, shows the impact that female students had on Gonzaga University’s campus when they were first admitted in 1948 and in two decades following. With more than 70 documents, photographs, and items from the University Archives and Special Collections, the exhibition helps to chronicle how and when these changes occurred through faculty, athletics, academics, organizations, and student life.
Examples of items found in the exhibition include excerpts from past issues of the Gonzaga Bulletin student newspaper, a 1968-1969 St. Catherine/St. Monica scrapbook, Spires yearbooks from the 1960s and 1970s, and a variety of photographs taken from 1948 to 1973.
The exhibition can be viewed from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. on weekdays and from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on weekends or online at http://researchguides.gonzaga.edu/coeducation.
