(SPOKANE, WA, April 9, 2021) Visit Spokane, the region's destination marketing organization, received seven awards for its "Room to Roam" campaign at the recent American Advertising Federation Spokane competition.

The campaign won a GOLD Award, Best of Division — Cross-Platform, and the coveted Best of Show — Integrated Branded Campaign. The whimsical critter illustrations also won a GOLD Award and Best of Division - Elements of Advertising for the Visit Spokane Illustration Series. The print advertising won a Silver Award, and the outdoor transit design also won a Silver Award. These projects were honored by American Advertising Federation judges from around the nation and announced in an online event held on April 2.

"To be recognized and honored for the work Visit Spokane did in 2020 is thrilling," said chief marketing officer Jamie Rand. "Marketing Spokane during a pandemic was not easy, but the economic impact that resulted from this creative marketing, along with the judges' decision to award the campaign prove it was successful."

The Room to Roam campaign's goal was to safely market Spokane, emphasizing Spokane's outdoor activities to the Seattle and Portland markets. With its whimsical illustrated characters, the advertising tactic, using a portion of $2.5 million in CARES Act funding, worked. The campaign resulted in $5 million in hotel bookings in 2020.

Visit Spokane developed the successful campaign in partnership with the creative and advertising team at Klündt Hosmer--who managed the campaign's creative, the strategy and implementation--and other instrumental local partners and vendors such as Mitch Davis, Treatment and Power Marketing.

The campaign will now compete at the regional level.
