Whitworth and The Spokesman-Review to host Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jon Meacham - May 6

Whitworth University and The Spokesman-Review’s Northwest Passages Book Club will host Pulitzer Prize-winning author and presidential historian Jon Meacham on May 6 from 7-9 p.m. at the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox.
President Beck A. Taylor will interview Meacham about his latest book, New York Times No. 1 best-seller The Soul of America: The Battle for Our Better Angels.
“I’m excited to welcome to Spokane such an important historian and author,” says President Taylor. “Meacham’s new book is relevant for our times as it reminds us that our country has consistently aspired to goodness and charity, even when embroiled in our worst political and moral controversies. It is a message for all ages, but it speaks profoundly to our own.”
Meacham was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 2009 for his best-selling book American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House. His book Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush quickly rose to No. 1 on the New York Times best-seller list in 2016. Bush’s family members were so impressed by the author that they asked him to deliver the former president’s eulogy last December.
Meacham is a distinguished visiting professor at Vanderbilt University, a contributing editor at Time magazine and a contributing writer to The New York Times Book Review. Meacham began his career at the Chattanooga Times and still lives in Nashville, Tenn.
Northwest Passages is The Spokesman-Review's community book club, which hosts leading authors, newsmakers and innovators at "Common Read" events.
