This is great news for Gleason, his family and all their supporters. The award would recognize Gleason for his efforts in raising awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a disease that he has fought tirelessly for years. The Senate passed his nomination unanimously in June, and the House vote sends his nomination to President Donald Trump desk for final approval.
Past recipients of the award include Mother Teresa, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Walt Disney, Rosa Parks and Thomas Edison.
