EWU Music Professor Named Music Director for Spokane Symphony

Kristina Ploeger, associate professor in EWU’s music department, has been named the new music director of the Spokane Symphony Chorale. Ploeger serves as director of Choral Activities at Eastern.

Previously, she taught choral methods at Gonzaga University and observed student teachers for Whitworth College as well as teaching middle school choir at Saint George’s School and high school choir at West Valley High School in the Spokane Valley.

In 2001, Ploeger earned her master’s degree in music from Eastern. She also has degrees from Edmonds Community College and Central Washington University. She is currently completing a doctorate degree in musical arts in choral conducting from the University of Kentucky.

In 2005, she was awarded the Arts in Education Award by the Spokane Arts Commission of the city of Spokane. In 2009, she was awarded Spokane’s YWCA Woman of Achievement in Arts and Culture Award. And, in 2010 the Spokane Area Children’s Chorus, directed by Ploeger, won the Arts Organization Award from the Spokane Arts Commission. Read more.
