Stuckart to run for Congress

Friday, December 9, 2016

As reported in Journal of Business

Spokane City Council President (and University District board member) Ben Stuckart, said he intends to run for 5th Congressional District representative in an anticipated special election to replace U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, who reportedly is expected to be named as Department of the Interior secretary in President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet.

Stuckart, who is 45 and has served as council president since 2012, said he will run as a Democrat. If elected, he would be the first Democrat to represent the 5th Congressional District since Tom Foley, who served for 30 years and rose to Speaker of the House before being unseated in 1995.

In a press release, Stuckart said, “I will represent the interests of Eastern Washington residents—not the political philosophy of powerful D.C. elites. We need elected leaders who get things done for all of us.”
